wow...the posts are coming fast and furious these days in Rogerland...
Holly just called me from the U2 concert.
Picked up the phone, and all I could really hear was this distorted music, then we got cut off. I couldn't even tell you what song it was.
It was nice that she called me, though. It was nice to be thought of.
I thought I would really be regretting not being at the show right about now, but really, it's not a big deal.
I got to see a fabulous concert last Thursday in Seattle...well, technically, Ballard. More on that in a bit.
I went to see Over The Rhine. For those not in the know, Over The Rhine are amazing. Period. Here's some pics:
ok...first off here's Robyn looking hott in an empty lot near the venue. In Ballard even empty lots are cool.
Ballard is a rad little town just across the bridge from Seattle (technically, it's part of Seattle I guess). It's the kind of place I'd like to live in. Lots of old buildings, funky shops, and near the beach. It's perfect!
This is Karin and Lindford, the heart and soul of Over The Rhine. They're also married. Thier lastest album refects a recent period when their marriage almost broke up...and how they overcame that. Deep stuff, but their songs are always about the deeper stuff of life.
Here's Karin and Kim Taylor, who was also the opening act. She was great too, and her voice blends so marvelously with Karin's. It's just one of those sublime things.
A closer shot of Karin....yeah...she is gorgeous.
Lindford with the accordion. I need to learn me that instrument...and get mine repaired.
...our post-show "emo" shot.
It was good times for sure.
I recommend listening to some Over The Rhine right away. (there's some downloads on thier site)
I also recommend a visit to Ballard Washington.
I think I had as much fun just hanging out in Ballard as I did at the show.
What else do I recommend?
Going to the Maplewood Lane cd release show this Saturday @ the Railway Club with the Secret Three, and Members of Radiogram.
Oh yes...drink lots of water too...I recommend that. Can you believe this weather we're having?
One more thing: I just got on the guestlist for the Weakerthans/Constantines/Jon Anderson show! Whee!
thanks jon!
One more one more thing... (how could I forget?)
You must go to see Kung Fu Hustle
I wasn't planning to go see it, considering that I'm not generally a fan of Chinese movies. But I did. And it was RAD! I'd have to say that it was one of the most deliriously entertaining movies I'd ever seen. Roger Ebert said that it's like Jackie Chan and Buster Keaton meet Quentin Tarantino and Bugs Bunny. As rediculous as that sounds, it's probably not too far off the mark.
I guess my point is that the reviews for Hitchhiker's Guide are coming in, and it's sounding like a bit of a dud. So, may as well go see something cool. I'd recommend this one.
